Remembering
United Methodist Women
In your will and estate plans

-----------

Be careful when making a will. Before making any bequests or gifts in your will – or any of your estate plans – consult an attorney. A will should not be prepared without expert legal advice.

-----------

United Methodist Women members have a passion for mission. We see the needs of women, children, and youth around the world, and our response to God's love for us and for others is to dedicate our lives to service. We offer our time, our talents, and our treasure in service.

We work to be wise stewards in life, and in death. With financial planning, we can ensure that ministries with women, children, and youth are supported long after we're gone.

It is legacy.
It is life giving.

It is our faith, hope, love in action.

The National Office of United Methodist Women is incorporated by a Special Act of the Legislature of New York State. It is authorized by its Charter to take, receive, and hold estates and funds by virtue of any gift made to it in any last will and testament.

Bequests or gifts may be given for use in mission areas where United Methodist Women directors determine the money is most needed. Or bequests and gifts to United Methodist Women may be given to support a specific project or projects in the United States or in other countries.

Since mission needs, concerns, and programs change over the years – and changing times may make it impossible to carry out some wishes – an undesignated bequest is sometimes the best choice. United Methodist Women, however, accepts full responsibility for carrying out the donor's intentions.

4. Gifts can be in the form of:
Cash or cash equivalent, such as a Certificate of Deposit.

Life insurance. You can name a charitable beneficiary such as United Methodist Women to receive all or a portion of the proceeds of an insurance policy.

Real estate. You can make a gift of property, including a home while you continue to reside in it.

Retirement accounts. You can make a charitable bequest of your retirement account(s) by naming United Methodist Women or any other charitable organization as the beneficiary of all or part of these accounts. At your death the remaining balance of the account(s) will be distributed to the charity free of tax.

Securities. Making a gift of securities that have appreciated in value entitles you to a Federal income tax deduction based on the full market value of the securities, without your having to pay capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the securities.

Plan of Action

Your will should be the centerpiece of an overall estate plan that uses the expertise of your advisors, such as attorney, financial planner, accountant, and insurance agent. Having a properly prepared will as part of your estate plan will give you peace of mind. If you have no will, your state of residence will make decisions according to state laws and delays in the timely settlement and distribution of your property may cause added expense and inconvenience to your loved ones.

Make a will today and include United Methodist Women in it!
